Interview with Scout Taylor-Compton
Meet the brand new Laurie Strode in the face of this rising star. She gave interview to Bloody-Disgustin.com website!

BD: In this film it's kind of a timeless look. You don't really have a 70s look or an 80s look apparently, according to Rob.

STC: Yes, it's definitely 2007.

BD: Oh, it is? Because he said he didn't want to make it like...he didn't want to have people holding cell phones and things like that, so have you noticed that much with the costumes?

STC: Yeah we really don't have that much stuff. We carry a few books here and there but no cell phones or anything like that.

BD: And you've got your posse, Laurie's girlfriends.

STC: Ha, ha, ha. Danielle and Kristin.

BD: So what's it like to work with them? And what are some of the scenes you have together that you've enjoyed?

STC: It's really fun working with them. All the scenes that we have together are like really sassy attitude always like picking on me kind of thing and trying to get me out there and stuff like that. And Danielle is definitely a blessing to work with, I've learned so much from her. I remember doing a scene with her in the house and she's trying to get me to hook up with a guy and there's a part where she jumps up on me and pushes me against the wall and starts being all perverted with a kid sitting right there. Kristin is like a little bit more shy but she's real nice.

BD: What have you done to try to bring her out?

STC: She's just been asking a lot of questions and stuff, me and Danielle spend a little more time with her talking about you know, all the career moves and stuff like that.

BD: What are you doing to differentiate your character from the original?

STC: I mean Jamie was definitely a lot older than I was. I'm 18, my real age and she was a little bit more conservative and a little bit more shy behind the scenes especially with her friends and she would be just really to herself and now I think that character blends a lot more with my friends. She can goof around with them and be as energetic as they are, but she's definitely still wholesome but she has a little sassy side to her, a little more attitude.

BD: There's rumors that your character , you the older Laurie, doesn't enter the story until later in the film? How late in the film?

STC: It's like it's halfway. I think what Rob is doing is trying to explain how Michael got the way he was, which I love. So from the beginning it's Michael younger and then he does all the stuff then he goes to the institution. Then he escapes from there and comes to find me, his sister. I come through like half the film. It's a little bit different than the original.

BD: And you have a nickname?

STC: Do I have a nickname? No. Oh yes... yes, I do! Boo. Sorry. Yeah because that's the only thing that he says in the institution and when young Michael leaves and gets arrested that's the last thing is he says is "I love you, Boo" which I thought was really sweet.

BD: When does he say that?

STC: He says that at the end before he goes to the institution, when he's like 10.

BD: Does that play a pivotal role later in the film?

STC: Yeah, because that's the only thing he remembers and he knows so throughout the film when he's chasing me and stuff there's a scene down in the basement where he's saying that to me and I don't know what he's talking about, because I was a baby.

BD: Do you feel in this remake that Michael is not necessarily trying to kill you?

STC: No, I mean I don't get that at all. Michael is definitely just trying to get to me and trying to show me that he's my brother and he loves me and he cares for me. I think I was the only person that he cared for when he was little. His mom didn't care, mom's boyfriend didn't care, sister he could care less and I was the only thing that he could love. And he was just trying to get to me and the only way he knows that is a little bit different... killing people.

BD: Do you have any scenes with Malcolm McDowell?

STC: Um-hmm.

BD: And?

STC: I love Malcolm. I really do. Me and Malcolm have bond a lot. He's so amazing to work with. I love him. We have a scene where he comes and he shoots Michael and I'm in the pool, in the bottom of the pool and Michael drops right and I'm crying and he comes and gets me and walks me to the car. And here comes Michael again because he never dies and we have this whole screaming and from the original asking "Was that the boogeyman?", we have that in there.

BD: How many different endings were shot for this?

STC: Rob was pretty much set on what he wanted to do at the end which I'm not going to explain because it's amazing what he, he knew what he wanted. But we did it two different ways, so I don't know which one he's going to pick. But it's basically the same shot, just two different ways.

BD: Does it leave it open for a sequel?

STC: Yeah, it does.

BD: And you're signed on for two, right?

STC: Um, no I'm not. But I'd love to do the next one.

BD: There is talk about a sequel, right?

STC: Yes, there is.

BD: What do you think about that, like all that speculation? Like, already a sequel and you're not even finished shooting now?

STC: I know. I think they're going to have to wait until it comes out to see how everybody reacts. I think everybody right now is wanting to see it, like hyped up about it. But I think we need to wait until it comes out and see what people's reactions are.

BD: Do you check out the Myspace page?

STC: I have a Myspace page and I do check it out. I actually just set it up last night and I already have like 400 friends that are writing me and I'm like, "Oh my God. I'm so sorry I can't get back to you" I just posted a bulletin "I'm on set I'll get back to you tomorrow". I really like that, like talking to people who are fans of the movie and answering their questions about Rob and stuff. They're making a lot of fan posters that they're sending and I'm forwarding to Rob and all that stuff so it's good, I love it.

BD: A lot of people say working in this genre is difficult. How has it been for you and will you do another horror film?

STC: I love doing horror films actually. I got done doing in Bulgaria called Wicked Little Things which comes out March 20th on DVD. I really love doing horror films. I love screaming and all the emotion that comes with it. But I think I definitely will continue doing more horror films. I would love to do another one of these. It's ending this week so it's a little sad but it's exciting for August to come.

BD: How did you perfect your scream? Because of course Jamie Lee Curtis has like "Scream Queen" but some actors say "it gives me a headache" others say it's very cathartic. Did you actually put a lot of thought into the screams, or did they just come naturally?

STC: I actually didn't put any thought into it. I remember the first time meeting Rob and doing the screen test with Danielle and we were doing the high school scene and it was very casual just talking to my friend and then Danielle left and Rob said "ok we're going to try emotional screaming scenes where I'm holding a naked girl, you know Linda, in my hands and I'm screaming for Michael and he's coming, approaching me. We just tried it the first time and I remember shaking and crying and screaming and when we were done Rob was just like wow, he didn't know what to say. I didn't really practice my scream, it just comes naturally and I love like getting into it and shaking, breathing heavy and all that stuff. I just love emotion.

BD: Do you do anything to warm up? I've seen some actors like run in place on set before a scene, to get all worked up.

STC: Actually, like, the first day I was trying to figure out how much emotion I needed to have and I was sort of just casually doing it but now sort of just like focus and I'm like talking to myself and like breathing really heavy and trying to get there, you know, But I've been doing that a lot and I scared a few of the guys because they didn't know I was doing it. They're like "Are you ok?'" . "I'm just getting prepared". But yeah definitely before a take I get into it.

BD: When was the first time you saw Tyler wearing the mask?

STC:Oh my gosh, the first day. The first day was right down in the basement, this heavy hardcore emotional scene where I'm seeing my friend dead for the first time and then I see Tyler come out. I've had a problem with his mask since I was a little kid with my uncle teasing me about it and seeing him for the first time freaked me out so much. I was terrified. He took it off and I was like "Ok Scout, you're making a movie here". But it's really... sometimes when I look behind me and I don't expect it, I'm kinda like {gasps} but I'm getting used to it and Tyler's such a sweet guy it's kind of hard to be scared of him.
