Javine: 'I'm so glad I got caught drink driving'
 It was a mistake that could have cost Javine Hylton her career. Last December, the pop star was caught driving her silver Mercedes while twice over the legal alcohol limit.
When officers nabbed the sultry singer in central London, they were shocked to see her passengers swigging vodka from a bottle.
And to make matters worse, the former Eurovision star failed to appear in court in January, claiming she had mixed up the dates. She was subsequently arrested and, earlier this month, was banned for 18 months and fined Ј1,000.
Now, remorseful Javine, 24, is actually pleased about the case. "To tell you the truth, I'm glad I got stopped," says the shamed songstress as she speaks about the incident for the first time.
"I could have hurt myself and other people. I'm just so sorry about the whole thing. It was a stupid mistake and I feel really bad."
Javine, from West London, explains that she'd been drinking with friends when one needed a lift to a nightclub to work.
"It was one of those times when someone needed me to help them out," she says. "But I shouldn't have done it and have never done it before. I've always been one of those people who jumps in a cab when they're on their way out.
"I've learned my lesson though. It will never happen again."
And she has a warning to anyone else considering driving when over the limit. "My advice would be - don't do it. It isn't worth it."
It's a heartening statement from the star, who shot to fame on Pop Stars: The Rivals and is no stranger to controversy.
Before she represented Britain in last year's Eurovision song contest, she had to see off a clearly unimpressed Jordan and their animosity is still simmering.
"I simply dislike Jordan but she hates me," she says. "She'd actually like to kill me. She's a bad loser.
"At one point, she called me a f***- ing whore to my face. She's foul. She's wants all the attention and I disagree with everything she stands for."
Despite the rift, Javine is glad she entered the contest. "When my manager suggested it, I thought it was too cheesy. But it was a great opportunity."
Javine had previously got her big break on 2002's Popstars: The Rivals, although she narrowly missed out on a place in Girls Aloud thanks to a public vote that outraged many. "I was gutted," she admits. "The night I was kicked out was the worst of my life." But the next day, calls came flooding in and she soon signed with Virgin and had a No.4 hit with Real Things.
Three follow-ups barely scraped the top 20, however, and she was dropped. "I was shocked but I don't get depressed. I'm still determined to get a No.1."
That may happen with her next attempt, as Javine has signed to another label and is releasing a dance track in July.
She's also about to start rehearsals for West End musical Boney M. "It stars Michelle Collins, who plays a strip-joint owner," she says. "I'm playing a pole-dancer. I haven't started practising yet but I reckon I'll be pretty good!"
But before that, the busy star will feature in Channel 4 reality show The Games, where celebs compete in a variety of athletic events.
This year, contestants include TV presenter Amanda Lamb, singer Michelle Gayle, ex-Blue Peter host Peter Duncan and Coronation Street actor Adam Rickitt.
AND sporty Javine is confident. "I'm in it to win it," she says. "We've been training five days a week for three months."
But the star, who's a size 10-12, admits her diet has suffered. "I'm a human dustbin," she says. "I'm always hungry. Luckily, all the exercise means I'm burning it off."
Which is good news for Javine's new man. She split with her boyfriend of seven years, club promoter Tony Charlery, last year, then went on a few dates.
"None of them worked out because I was trying too hard," she explains. "Then, as soon as I stopped trying, I met the guy for me. He's my dream man but I'm not revealing who he is!"
But it seems her new love hasn't stopped her socialising. "I still like a drink on a Friday night," she says. "I'd be lying if I said I didn't."
Of course, from now on, she'll leave her car keys at home.
The Games are live on Channel 4, 8.30 pm, Friday.

И конечно, теперь она будет оставлять ключи от машины дома.

Is Javine addicted to talent contests or what? After making her name in Pop Stars: The Rivals for not quite making it into Girls Aloud, she then put herself through A Song For Europe AND the Eurovision Song Contest, where she came eighteenth. And now she's signed up for Channel 4's new series of The Games.
If you've not seen the show, it's the one where celebs compete against each other in a series of sporting challenges. And it's no picnic. Series one saw Melanie C - the one they used to call Sporty Spice, remember? - carted off to hospital after knacking her leg in a judo match.
So, does Javine have what it takes to follow in Mel's crutch-steps? Her mate reckons so, and told the Sun: "Javine's been in training since before Christmas and hasn't had a drink. She's in it to win it."
And even if she doesn't, there's always Strictly Come Dancing, right Jav?

A tabloid snoop saw the whole thing, and this is what he told the Mirror: "[Nick] went up to Javine and said that he couldn't keep his eyes off her and had been watching her all night. He told her she was the most beautiful black girl he'd ever seen and asked if she was a singer. She introduced herself and he said: 'I've heard of you!'"
Wow, not just ONE rubbish chat-up line, but TWO! The snitch continued: "Javine thought it was hilarious. He then said he wanted to meet her for a drink later on and go on a date."
So, after the awards stuff was finished, that's what they did: "He started kissing the back of her neck at the bar and then told her to come to Funky Buddha up the road. He took her hand and led her out to his chauffeur-driven car. Once they got to the club, they went to the VIP area and sat snogging away."
And, classiest of all, as soon as Javine wandered off for a sec, Nick started kissing another girl! But there's no hard feelings, as Jav told the Mirror: "Nick is a really nice guy and very cute. I had a great night with him."

Javine: 'Eurovision was rigged'
Javine, the UK's entrant to Saturday's (21MAY05) 50th annual Eurovison Song Contest, has slammed the competition's voting system - insisting the results were based on political tactics.
The sexy singer was thrilled with her performance in Kiev, despite battling a throat infection from the day before, and was shocked to finish a disappointing third from last, scoring just 18 points from a telephone poll by 39 countries.
She fumes, "I didn't feel all the countries voted on performances and songs. I was really pleased with my performance."

JAVINE may have missed out on Eurovision glory due to some odd voting but she is a big hit in lots of other countries - including the winner Greece!
Record companies in Greece and nearby Cyprus have contacted her management offering deals.
A source says: "Javine put on an amazing performance to over 100 million people across Europe. It's a massive platform."
It won't be the first time Javine has enjoyed success outside the UK as her single Surrender (Your Love) was No.1 in Japan last year. She flew home on Sunday and was back in the studio yesterday. Our source adds: "Javine's a fighter. Her next single will be out soon."

Javine's fiery entry is a damp squib
UK entrant Javine Hylton had a dismal night at the Eurovision Song Contest as her song Touch My Fire failed to spark voters' interest.
The 23-year-old Girls Aloud reject scraped only 18 points in the voting and came third from last.
Greece took first place with Elena Paparizou's song My Number One scoring 230 points.
Javine almost rivalled the UK's entry for 2003, when Jemini rose to fame for being the group which scored nil points for the UK for the first time.
Twenty four contestants battled it out in the contest before a crowd of 6,500 in Ukraine's capital Kiev last night.
This year's contest, which is the 50th anniversary of the competition, was hosted on BBC 1 by Terry Wogan in his traditional role.
As Javine failed to score he said: "It's extraordinary. The voting is all over the place.
"We are languishing at the bottom of the pile with nil points - not again."
The UK entry was eventually raised from the bottom of the table by eight points from Ireland and finally totalled 18.
Terry said: "The UK is not doing particularly well but at least we are off the bottom of the table."
In the end, no country scored nil points.
Javine, who was second to perform, had feared an inflamed throat which developed this week would affect her performance.
However, she made a valiant effort to belt out her song, which she had co-written with John Themis.
She wore a short gold dress designed by Luke Hall and decorated with crystals.
Javine had her first brush with fame on Popstars: The Rivals but failed to make it into the group Girls Aloud.
In March this year she beat ex-glamour model Jordan in the contest to choose who would represent the UK. During that performance she famously popped out of her dress.
Her odds to win last night had been 20-1.
UK voters awarded the maximum score of 12 to Greece.

Javine's throat in dangerous!
Javine, the UK Eurovision Song Contest entrant, was forced to cancel media interviews on Friday after suffering a sore throat ahead of Saturday's show.
But her team says it is not serious and are confident she will still take part.
A spokeswoman said she was "confident that the show will go on".
But BBC News's Michael Osborn said the singer was struggling with her voice during her first dress rehearsal.
"She lost her voice on a couple of key notes," he said after her performance on Friday afternoon.
"It was alright but there was a bit of a sound problem," Javine told the BBC as she left the arena.
"I hope it will be better this evening," she added.
She will have a final dress rehearsal at 1900 BST on Friday.
On Saturday Javine will perform for the public vote against singers from 23 other countries.
The final line-up was decided in a semi-final on Thursday in which Ireland, who have won the contest more times than any other country, got knocked out.
Javine's career began after she narrowly lost out on a place in reality TV band Girls Aloud.
Her Eurovision song, Touch My Fire, is a 25/1 shot with bookmakers to win the contest.
"I can't see myself coming last," she has said. "I know I'm going to be in the top 10."
Eurovision is one of Europe's major TV events, with more than 150 million people expected to watch the final.
This year's contest marks the event's 50th anniversary.

Speaking exclusively to Top of the Pops, Jav was a little dismissive of Russian duo tATu's on-stage kiss a few years back.
"It's a bit of a let down when people do things like that," she told us. "It should be about the song and how they perform. Not taking their clothes off or whatever".
But Javine's certainly knows how the whole promotion thing works "I guess they may have come last if they'd never kissed".

 UK R 'n' B star Javine has been talking about her excitement at representing the UK at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest.
Speaking at the Urban Music Awards the statuesque singer said she's nervous but really looking forward to performing her winning song Touch My Fire at the contest in front of millions of viewers all over the world.
The former reality show star suffered a minor embarrassment at the song selection competition when a "wardrobe malfunction" saw her exposing a little more flesh than she had intended.
But she assures us that her costume for the big competition is as safe as houses and shouldn't cause her any blushes on the night.

Javine broke up with her boyfriend - Launch
Singer Javine has dumped her live-in boyfriend.
The UK's Eurovision Song Contest entrant has reportedly ended her long-term relationship with club promoter Tony Chorale after work pushed the couple apart.
A source told The Mirror: "Javine and Tony have been having problems for a while now. But they've been together for such a long time, they both really wanted to make it work."
"Since being chosen to represent the UK at Eurovision, Javine's schedule has been crazy and she hasn't had a moment to herself.
"The problems they've had resurfaced and Javine just doesn't have the time to focus on resolving them any more - so she took the decision to end it."
Chorale moved out of the couple's west London home last week.
The source continues: "She was dropped by her record label and obviously her confidence took a knock. But now she has signed a new deal... and is in big demand."
"She has decided it's time to focus on the future, although breaking up was a scary decision to make."
Javine releases her Eurovision entry "Touch My Fire" as a single on May 16, ahead of the Song Contest in Kiev on May 21.

Javine shots the video for 'Touch My Fire'! - Official Site
It’s a busy week this week for Javine. Wednesday is being spent shooting the video for “Touch My Fire”. She’s also been very busy doing lots of photoshoots for magazines. Look out for lots of coverage over the next month or so in magazines like FHM, Marie Claire and Sugar.
The single “Touch My Fire” is now confirmed for release on May 16th. Plus, this Thursday night Javine will play Mercy nightclub in Norwich.

 Javine, the United Kingdom entrant at the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest, has been signed by global record company Universal Records . Her first release on the new label will be the song she hopes will capture the United Kingdom's sixth Eurovision crown in Kiev, Touch my fire . The song will be release on May 16th.
Touch My Fire will be released on Island Records , a division of Universal. The stable is home to artists such as Bon Jovi, Christina Milian and Slayer. The song will be released May 16, just five days before she takes to the stage in Kiev. It is hoped that the song will receive strong airplay figures and score a high position on the UK charts the day after the competition.
Javine was previously with EMI on the Innocent and had two Top 20 singles after narrowly missing out on a place in the Girls Aloud line up through the talent show Pop Stars - The rivals .
Javine goes straight to the Eurovision Song Contest final on May 21st due to the United Kingdom's position as one of the 'Big Four' contributors to the EBU. Find out what position she will sing from on esctoday.com tomorrow.

Javine Vs Jordan - not over yet? - Ananova
In true 'good loser' spirit, Jordan has hit out at Britain's Eurovision winner Javine.
Having come second in the televised competition to represent the country, Jordan claimed that her pregnancy must have been the reason she didn't win.
"I think I lost because I'm pregnant... It's the only reason I can think of - that certain people didn't want me because I wouldn't look slinky and sexy like normal by the time of Eurovision in May," she revealed in a special column in The Sun.
"I believe I was the victim of a smear campaign. It was all lies but maybe it could have cost me votes because people assumed I was going to win.
"There was a lot of bitching from Javine about me being pregnant - she said I shouldn't have entered, as if being pregnant made me undesirable."
The glamour girl, who was favourite to win, went on to say she wouldn't be buying Javine's single and claimed that fellow loser, Gina G, looked like a clown.
She did admit that she was "gutted" but added that she's got a record deal and will be releasing a single later this year.

Javine exposure angers TV viewers - BBC News
 Singer Javine has prompted TV viewer complaints after her breast was briefly exposed during a performance on BBC One show Making Your Mind Up.
The broadcaster received 10 complaints soon after Saturday's show with "fewer than 30" complaints received by Monday.
"The number of complaints received on the night was extremely small and the incident in question was a split-second occurrence," a show spokeswoman said.
Javine was chosen to represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest in May.
The 24-year-old singer's dress slipped down during her second performance of the night of her song Touch My Fire.
She denied the incident had been staged and attributed it to the excitement of the moment.
"I had just been told I'd won and I was jumping up and down and hugging everyone," she said. "The tape came away from my dress and it popped out.
"I'm not going to think about it now, it's one of those little things that happens during live TV."
She beat fellow singers Gina G, Andy Scott Lee, trio Tricolore and model Jordan - also known as Katie Price - in Saturday's public vote.
Javine, who was previously a contestant in ITV talent show Popstars: The Rivals, will perform the song during the Eurovision Song Contest in Ukraine on 21 May.

When it comes to performing live on stage, Javine is certainly no stranger to the pressures involved. Having spent two years in the coveted role of 'Nala' in the West End production of 'The Lion King' and playing to packed houses every night, her skills were honed to perfection.
Armed with this invaluable experience she auditioned for and shot to fame on the ITV show Popstars: The Rivals. Proving hugely popular with viewers throughout the show's run, Javine made it to the last six girl singers. However, in a nail-biting final, Javine was not selected to be in the group that was to go on to become 'Girls Aloud'.
But the story did not end there and the initial disappointment of not making the band, has been well and truly forgotten as Javine has gone on to enjoy massive success as a solo artist in her own right.
Her debut single, 'Real Things' went straight into the charts at No 4, and featured on Richard X's critically acclaimed album with a cover of the Thelma Houston classic 'You Used To'. Javine has continued to feature in the charts with her most recent hit, Don't Walk Away garnering massive radio play.
With such an extensive and wide ranging portfolio of music, it comes as no surprise that this talented singer song writer could not pass up the opportunity to be part of such a huge music event.
"Music can be what ever you want it to be and to see all these different countries coming together on one night and hearing all their different influences is a great experience. Glamour girl Jordan will battle it out with Gina G for the chance to represent the UK at this year's Eurovision Song Contest.
The surgically enhanced model is using the competition to launch her singing career.
Gina G, who came seventh in the contest in 1996 with Ooh Aah... Just A Little Bit, is making a second bid for glory.
The five acts vying to sing the UK's entry were unveiled on Top of the Pops and nearly all are familiar faces.
Reality show rejects Andy Scott Lee and Javine are contenders, along with G4-style opera trio Tricolore.
Scott Lee was a member of defunct boy band 3SL and attempted a comeback by entering Pop Idol. He is the boyfriend of Liberty X star Michelle Heaton.
Javine missed out on a place in Girls Aloud when she failed to make the final five on Popstars: The Rivals. She went solo but was recently dropped by her record label.
Tricolore are the only hopefuls as yet unknown to TV viewers.
The concert act have sung with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and performed for the likes of the Duchess of York, John Major and Eric Clapton. The group is made up of Stuart Pendred, from Bedford, Jem Sharples, from Hastings, and American Scott Ciscon, from Chicago.
All five acts will perform live on the BBC1 show Making Your Mind Up on March 5, hosted by Terry Wogan and Natasha Kaplinsky.

But in some ways, it wasn't my fault - there was nothing new about Javine, only a HUGE nightmare - she was dropped from 'Virgin' record company, because of low sales and low positions in UK Tops. This info was confirmed by 'The Mirror' and it, unfortunately, looks true - Javine's got no performances or records since this summer. I really hope, that she'll return - with new image and new songs. She's got an amazing voice and she's so beautiful and stylish singer! Also her 1st ever single 'Real Things' is my favorite song for about 2 years! However, there are some new stuff - 17 new photos from 'Best of My Love' video and 20 photos from 'Surrender' video. Also new song in 'Media' - 'You've got a Friend'! Enjoy this and be ready for all Jav's news and updates! 'Cause this is the only site in the Internet (unless her official site) about this very talented girl!
